Adoration of the Magi:
attr. Antonio di Donnino Del Mazziere (c/ 1520-1530) oil on wood panel. This piece is at the Brooks Museum of Art. The museum has always been located in a large urban park here in Memphis but is planning a move downtown. Their new facility, better able to house the growing collection and display travelling exhibitions, will be on the river.

Looks like a ood museum and I should think by the river will be more scenic. You will have to let us know how the move goes and whether you like the new facility. Have a great Saturday. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThe building is beautiful, especially the original part, but it's just not what they need now. I hope someone wants it :) I'm sure it'll take years to accomplish the move.
DeleteI absolutely adore that painting. I saw a similar one in the Smithsonian. Moving the museum down by the river will make the river area even fuller than it is now. I look forward to seeing the move in progress and how it fits on the river.
ReplyDeleteAs I understand it, they're looking at a location just north of Union Avenue on Front Street. It'll be a wonderful addition to the riverfront. https://www.google.com/maps/search/memphis+Front+Street+between+Union+and+Monroe/@35.1438236,-90.0592605,16.02z
DeleteSounds like they have big plans for the art museum. I hope it works out. :)
ReplyDeleteI personally like it fine where it is -the tradition of it, you know :) - but I understand their reasons, and it will get a lot more tourist traffic downtown while not hurting it with locals. Surely _somebody_ will want the old building.
DeleteWhat a beautiful painting! It t sounds like the museum will be a wonderful addition to the river area 😁. I do hope the old museum building will still be loved and used when the museum relocates too! Have a great day! J 😊
ReplyDeleteDowntown will be further away from me but not by much, and I think it'll be a great spot for it. I'm a bit worried about the old building, but surely _somebody_ will want it. Our Art College is also in that park and is closing, and that building is stunning. Bad timing for them both to empty :(
DeleteSuch a gorgeous painting. Hope you get a chance to visit the new museum when it's finally opened.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! I'll be a regular :)
