Everything Stops for Tea

Everything Stops for Tea:

by Jack Buchanan, who died on this date in 1957. He's perhaps best known from the 1953 movie The Band Wagon. Wikipedia says, "He was known for three decades as the embodiment of the debonair man-about-town". "Everything stops for tea" does sound like a very civilized attitude.

Lyrics excerpt:
It's a very good English custom
And a stimulant for the brain
When you feel a little weary, a cup'll make you cheery
And it's cheaper than champagne

Now I know just why Franz Schubert
Didn't finish his unfinished symphony
He might have written more but the clock struck four
And everything stops for tea

  5. I'll have to ask my mom if she remembers this man from the movies. She was more of a westerns fan but who knows.

  7. Love how everything stops for tea :-)
It is fun when watching British shows how tea is offered upon entering someone's home...
    even detectives LOL.
    Tea helps all traumas too.
Really fun vintage clip you shared.

  8. Even though my grandmother drank coffee every day, she always had tea at around 4 in the afternoon each day. It's a great custom, and I may have subconsciously chosen 4 pm for posting my T post each Tuesday/Monday because of it.

Loved the lyrics. Never heard of Buchanan before, but he was quite handsome. And your choice for sharing and honoring him on his death seems even more appropriate.

Thanks for sharing this as well as the lyrics with us for T this Tuesday.

  14. Oh yes! Everything stops for tea, even now. When you go to someone's house in England, the first thing they do is put the kettle on! (even though a lot of people drink soluble coffee).
I thoroughly enjoyed the song. (with my head phones on as my husband is studying his Spanish). Thanks for sharing it.
