Frankenstein is a 2004 two-episode miniseries, an adaptation of the book. This is a faithful adaptation but a bit slow getting started. Notable actors in supporting roles are William Hurt, as Frankenstein's academic mentor, and Donald Sutherland, as captain of the ship trapped in ice in the Arctic.
I don't know. We didn't have cable back then and only discovered it when we came across it in the video store. My husband picked it up. Its main attraction to me is its faithfulness to the book.
Yes, so many think the Karloff movie is the story of Frankenstein and have never read the book. This would be a great into to the original story for people who don't want to try the book.
This sounds wonderful. I'm glad you pointed out the film was faithful to the book. I still like Donald Sutherland, and he can play so many different and unique parts, from evil to fatherly.
Because this blog does not consist of a single focus topic I chose the name Divers and Sundry where "Divers" means being of many and various kinds, and "Sundry" means consisting of a haphazard assortment of different kinds.
This sounds good. Was it on the Hallmark Channel? It doesn't seem like their style, but I would like to check this out as I loved the book. Hugs-Erika

DeleteWhat a great find, it's not often you find adaptions staying faithful to the book 😁. Wishing you a happy week! J 😊

ReplyDeleteSutherland is good, isn't he! He's part of the frame story in this.
DeleteLooks familiar, but then again there might have been another version that ended up with a chase on the ice. Not sure.
ReplyDeleteThe 1994 Branagh film had Arctic ice scenes. Maybe others, I'm not sure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Shelley%27s_Frankenstein_(film)
DeleteI think that's the one I watched! :) Thanks. That was a good one, too.
DeleteYes, there are a lot more Frankenstein adaptations than I realized.
