Stardust

I had forgotten about the Book to Movie Challenge until it was too late to finish it, but I did finally get around to reading the 2nd book I had selected for it: Stardust, by Neil Gaiman. I don't have any interest in seeing the movie, but I enjoyed this fairy tale. It's got the feel of a fairy tale from before the modern fantasy period, and I liked the fairly straightforward plot and the faerie creatures.

from the back of the book:

What happens when you make a promise to bring back a fallen star? Teenager Tristran Thorn is about to find out, as he ventures beyond the wall of his English countryside town. After falling in love with the hauntingly beautiful Victoria Forester, he sets out on a quest to fulfill his promise to his beloved—and stumbles into the magical realm that lies beyond.

8/28/2009: SFSignal doesn't like it.
