The list is annotated at their site, explaining why each was chosen. I'll have to add the ones I haven't seen to my list of movies to watch. I may have to break down and buy Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind new. I've been looking locally for years and have never found it used.

I've seen all but 2. Nausicaa was available from Netflix -- I think I found a Torrent a while back, but it's gone now. I have a copy -- Well worth the money as the kiddos have watched it over and over again. Note: I just found it on google video. All 119 minutes, but it's the English version. We usually watch it in Japanese with English subtitles.
ReplyDeleteI also LOVED Howl's Moving Castle. And then there is the best of the best -- Grave of the Fireflies. The most moving anime I have ever seen. Incredible and quite the commentary about the Japanese at the end of WWII.
I spend most of mt discretionary allowance on used books and DVDs. I love having them around where I can re-read sections or re-watch scenes. Buying new is not nearly as cost-efficient.
ReplyDeleteWe sometimes watch anime in Japanese and sometimes not. We sometimes have problems reading the subtitles, depending on the print and background color.
Howl's Moving Castle is one of our favorites, too. I haven't seen Grave of the Fireflies, but The Elder Son watched it in a politics in film class in college. He liked it. I'd like to see it.
