Godzilla: King of the Monsters!

Godzilla: King of the Monsters! is the 1956 Hollywood adaptation of the 1954 Japanese Gojira. The American version inserts Raymond Burr as a newspaper reporter who narrates the events. We'd love to have Gojira, but don't have it yet.

This is it, the first and probably still the best of the Japanese monster movies, or kaiju eiga. This is the film that defines the genre, and in most people’s eyes, it also defines the somewhat broader genre of 50’s-style monster rampage movies as a whole, regardless of their countries of origin.
