Wilde

Wilde (Amazon Prime) is a 1997 British biographical romantic drama film about the turmoil in Wilde's life after he discovers he is homosexual. It stars Stephen Fry in the title role, with Jude Law, Vanessa Redgrave, Jennifer Ehle, Gemma Jones, Judy Parfitt, Michael Sheen, Zoë Wanamaker, and Tom Wilkinson in supporting roles. It's difficult to watch. I don't tend to watch historical or biographical or romance movies anyway, so this is way out of my viewing preference, but I gave it a try for Pride Month. What a tragic waste to treat people this way. Words fail me.

    That's such a great cast. I'm curious why it was hard to watch. Graphic? The way he was treated? I do like history and bio, so was that it for you?

      For me it was how he was treated and the difficulty of living in that society and trying to keep that part of him hidden. Fairly impossible. He went to _prison_ for it :( The thought that the Republicans want to remove the rights the LGBTQ+ community have gained is a scary thought. I didn't find it graphic.

    Stephen Fry is a great actor and definitely the ideal casting for Oscar Wilde. I think I might be interested in this film.

    I like Stephen Fry-sometimes. I'm not sure this sounds like my type of film, but I bet Stephen FRy made a good Wilde.
