The Strange Affair of Uncle Harry is a 1945 film noir directed by Robert Siodmak and starring George Sanders. Those two names are enough to watch the movie for. I watched it on YouTube:
DVD Talk says it "should have been a celebrated classic. It's a perfect little picture of its kind, with impressive performances and an intriguing theme. But it couldn't find its way around a censorship problem..." The Spinning Image says, " Sanders had one of his best roles as the downtrodden but polite title character." Rotten Tomatoes has a concensus score of 80%.
And again... not available in Germany.

I thought _our_ copyright rules were strange :(
Delete...two names that are new to me.
ReplyDeleteSiodmak is best known for thrillers and films noir.
DeleteI watched the first 24 minutes and will watch the rest of it tonight if I get caught up. Too bad it had a censorship problem with the ending. I can see where Angela Lansbury got her looks. She was a beautiful product of her mother Moyna McGill.
ReplyDeleteI clicked on her link, and there's a strong resemblance isn't there! I hadn't realized her mother was an actress. Thanks!
DeleteThat title sounds like the name of a mystery book.I wonder what was strange about his affair. Or that happened to him. Have a great Saturday.
ReplyDeleteAh, you'll hafta watch it and find out ;)
DeleteI'll have to go look for this I like George Sanders.
ReplyDeleteIf I see his name attached I watch the film :)
DeleteThis is one I will check out. I too like these actors.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely worth watching.
DeleteInteresting. I do like George Sanders.
ReplyDeleteHe's a treasure.
DeleteIt sounds good, thanks! Valerie
ReplyDeleteIt is! I hope you like it :)
DeleteThis does sound good.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I'll watch George Sanders whenever I see him :)
DeleteWell, I liked it but not the very end. I am not a fan of those what if kind of endings (as you know from the last one I commented on). George was very good, though. He was always good as I recall. :)
ReplyDeleteThere was at least one resignation over that ending. We're not alone in rolling our eyes over it. George Sanders is one I'll watch in any film I see him.
