Senses of Cinema
By situating the drama of The Far Country upon the boundaries of the United States and the nineteenth century – ‘Seattle, 1896’ – Mann obviously has no interest in perpetuating the kind of golden pioneering myths so prevalent in early examples of the western genre. For the late 1890s was an interesting yet sad time in American history; a time when the glorious West and the notions of ‘wilderness’ and ‘heroes’ became severely tarnished.Variety says, "Pic marks the fifth successful combination of James Stewart, as star, Aaron Rosenberg as producer, and Anthony Mann as director.". Rotten Tomatoes has a critics consensus score of 100%.

ReplyDeleteThis is one of my faves. James and my grandpa looked like one another so I have a warm spot for anything with James Stewart. Have a great day today.
ReplyDeleteI love westerns and I haven't seen this in a while but I seem to remember the scenery being breathtaking 😁. Take care and Happy T Tuesday! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteNot a movie I've seen! And cold coffee is a no go! Valerie
ReplyDeleteNot Western fan but I do love Jimmy Stewart and did see this one- but it was some years ago. Thanks for sharing, and happy T day!
ReplyDeleteI think I saw that one back in the day. James Stewart is great.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day,
Lisca
I like James Stewart but I haven't seen this one.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,

Sounds like it is worth checking out with those good reviews. I used to watch westerns with my dad all the time, but sad to say, I was little and don't remember the names of most of them. But if I see the film, then I know if I've seen it or not. Nice T photo too. Hope your day is going well.
ReplyDeleteI'm not usually into westerns, but I would watch this because I like Jame Stewart and Walter Brennan. Not sure I've ever seen anything I can remember about them other than I know I liked seeing them at Turner Classic Movies in the past. Thanks for this unique take on T this Tuesday, dear.
ReplyDeleteWe were just commenting the other night that they never make any great cowboy films any more, most are doom and gloom, my favourite was always Clint Eastwood.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week

I hope I have seen everything Jimmy Stewart was ever in. This is one of them. :)
ReplyDeleteI've always liked both Stewart and Brennan. The cinematography looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGood movie!
ReplyDeleteI've seen this a couple of times, Jimmy Stewart was a truly great actor tough guys or meek gentleman played equally well.
ReplyDeleteThe scenery does look amazing.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Anything with James Stewart will do for me. I'm sure I've watched this a few times! Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
