Better Off Dead is a 1985 dark comedy cult classic. It takes place during the Christmas season. You can watch it via DailyMotion in 2 parts with commercials.
Although the name doesn't ring a bell I do seem to remember a few of the scenes. I only got through the first link so maybe when I watch the rest I might have a better idea if I actually saw this.
Movies that take place at Christmastime as opposed to movies about Christmas, maybe... But a lot of commonly accepted Christmas movies aren't _about_ Christmas... I'm going with the new term I found online: "Christmas adjacent" lol
I don't know how I keep missing these posts, but they are not showing up on my sidebar until a couple of days later. I really want to see this film.
And because Patio Postcards brought it up, I'm on the side of Die Hard being a Christmas movie, even though it was originally released in August when it came out.
...I'll be thinking happier thought.
ReplyDeleteThis was kinda cute if you like that sort of thing. It is quite funny.

ReplyDeleteI'm always surprised when I think I haven't seen a movie and my husband says, "yes, you have, but it just wasn't memorable" lol _He_ remembers them...
DeleteI remember passing on this years ago on Netflix. Not in the suicidal mood around Christmas, I guess--ROFL! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's off-beat, I'll say that for it. I understand why it has a cult following.
DeleteI enjoyed this Film! Valerie
ReplyDeleteI was happy to find it. I'd never heard of it before I saw it on a list of Christmas-adjacent films.
Deleteand another one to add to the debate, is it really a Christmas movie ... just like the Die Hard debate (lol).

I agree :) I think some people just want Christmas movies to be sweeter or include a different kind of romance.
