Happy Birthday, Donovan!

Donovan was a priceless part of my childhood, and his music is as much a part of my memories of the 60s as anything else I can think of. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014. He is still active.

Catch the Wind was released in 1965 and was Donovan's first big hit. It has had numerous covers.

Universal Soldier was also a hit in 1965:

My favorite of his songs is Mellow Yellow, which was a hit in 1966:

Listening to it still brings back fond memories of elementary school. I also loved Hurdy Gurdy Man from 1968:

He just brings the 60s back, doesn't he! I wish him a very happy birthday and many more.

    1. Universal Soldier has been well covered over the years. It looks like the last cover released was in 2013. It's a solid anti-war song, and I'm surprised it's not better known.

  3. Oh, we have a love on Donovan in common. I had to google it--he's 72. Only five years older than I am. Jennifer Jupiter, Wear Your Love Like Heaven, Season of The Witch...so many songs. I had to listen to each one of these. They bring me back. Did you watch the BBC TV concert in 1972 where he sat crosslegged on the stage when they showed it in the US?
    This was great! Thanks!! :)

    1. Yes, so many! No, my tv-watching was limited in the 70s. Radio was where my music-listening happened. I'm always happy when people I loved back in the day stay active. Makes me feel young :)

  4. I remember these songs. They are very 1960's and bring back memories too. You are very good at knowing/finding these dates. And thanks for some nice music in my life this morning. Hugs-ERika
