Coffee at the Peabody Hotel

Last week The Husband, The Daughter, and I went downtown to have coffee and do some people-watching in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel. It's been said,
”The Mississippi Delta begins in the lobby of The Peabody Hotel and ends on Catfish Row in Vicksburg. The Peabody is the Paris Ritz, the Cairo Shepheard, the London Savoy of this section. If you stand near its fountain in the middle of the lobby ... ultimately you will see everybody who is anybody in the Delta...” -Author/Historian David Cohn, 1935.
Given that, how can you resist?

Here's the gingerbread house display:

Here's the lobby menu:

I had coffee and lemon meringue pie:

We were there when the late afternoon duck march took place. This daily ceremony is when the Duckmaster takes the ducks back up to their rooftop quarters. A delightful experience, I'd certainly recommend it if you're ever in Memphis.

As we left the Peabody, we passed by the side entrance:

on the way back to the parking garage. You can see how dreary and drizzly it was, but it wasn't actually very cold:

Downtown has nice Christmas decorations, and we enjoyed our stroll.

  1. I love your annual visits to the Peabody Hotel. I remember one year you took us to the roof where the ducks live. They are certainly well behaved for being wild and only living there three months. I also enjoyed seeing the menu for the first time. Coffee and ladyfingers, what a treat. And of course, I love lemon meringue pie, too.

A walk through downtown Memphis was fabulous. There was so much to see in each of these photos, including the ones from downtown. Thanks for sharing your trip to the Peabody, your coffee, ladyfingers, and pie with us for T this Tuesday. It's always fun when you take us to the Peabody.

  5. You've taken us to the Peabody before and I love it every time, D. I'd love to see it and watch the duck march. The lobby is simply gorgeous! And the almost life size gingerbread house is really impressive. I wonder if the lobby smelled of ginger and cinnamon.

I'm getting around late because I linked up late. Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  9. Wow. I think you were smart going out for Tea (coffee) at the Peabody. What a gorgeous place. It looks like a fun festive thing to do. Too bad it was raining and not snowing, but maybe if it had snow the roads would be too dicey to drive on. Hope you had a great holiday and Happy T day. hugs-Erika
