Tea Time

Tea Time:

is a painting by painter/sculptor Louise Abbéma (10/30/1853-7/10/1927). You can see more of her work online at The Athenaeum web site. The glbtq arts web site says she was "one of the most successful women artists of her day". ArtsExperts says, "She was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon and the State recognized her artistic talent by awarding her the Legion of Honor in 1906. She also exhibited in Chicago in 1893." ArtNet says she "achieved her first great success as a young painter in 1876, when she exhibited a portrait of her friend, the actress Sarah Bernhardt."

This woman looks quite prim and proper to me, but I think she would give the dog a treat.

Please join the weekly T Stands for Tuesday blogger gathering hosted by Bleubeard and Elizabeth. We share a beverage of some sort, and you'll be warmly welcomed.

  1. I think she's talking to her dog. Maybe telling him the tea is just right or too hot to sip yet. And who knows, maybe her dog likes to lick the end of the tea in the cup. I wouldn't put it past some dogs. This is a wonderful post and I've never heard of this artist so I am glad you shared. Hugs-Erika

  2. I love the painting, and the way she is concentrating on the dog. My dog used to love drinking cooled down tea, but never coffee! Have a happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  7. This is a beautiful painting, and an artist I've not heard of until now. The lady is beautiful, and I suspect she would definitely give her dog a treat. Thanks for sharing this painting and exposing us to this artist for T this Tuesday.

  11. I don't know if she would give the dog a treat, D. She looks quite disdainful. Her expression could be interpreted so many ways. It's a lovely painting and a good find for T-day ;-)

    Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen

  14. Happy T Day and what wonderful painting you found to get us all thinking. I imagine she lives alone except for the dog who is her companion and friend and they share tea together in very special way.

    Love Chrissie xx

  15. The dog knows to beg politely. She is making him wait for his bit of biscuit/cookie. To me she looks like she is just about to give in and smile. ;) Lovely painting.

  17. Lovely painting, I think she may make the dog 'sit' before she gives him a treat! A very belated Happy T Day for last week - internet connection was rubbish this time at our caravan! Chrisx
