Sphere

Sphere is a 1998 film, a science fiction thriller directed by Barry Levinson and starring Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Coyote, and Liev Schreiber. Reviews were generally negative, but I enjoyed it. It's not typical and has a lot to offer both in terms of enjoyment and in providing something to think about; but having seen it once I won't go back to it again.

trailer:

Roger Ebert calls it "a watered-down take on the sci-fi classic Solaris". Rotten Tomatoes has a critics score of 12%.

  1. Although Michael Crichton is one of my favorite authors, I was disappointed with this film. Like you, once was enough. I saw it on TV, and although it was OK, I felt there were subtle, yet negative differences between the film and the movie. So glad you reviewed a movie I've actually seen!

    1. I hadn't read the book, so I might have liked the movie less if I had. I haven't read much Crichton.

  2. I saw this way back when. I didn't think it was a terrible movie, but was okay. Good actors were what carried it. Yes--once was just fine, though. ;)

    1. Good actors, yes, I think you're right. That's what made it watchable for me.

  3. I remember this film. Its been awhile. I can't remember whether I liked it or not, so maybe since I can't remember it that much its wasn't that memorable or outstanding to me. I guess I need to rewatch it. happy weekend.

    1. Some movies stick with me, and some don't. Sometimes I re-watch a movie I don't remember and am pleasantly surprised, while other times I realize why I didn't remember it ;)
