Hog and Hominy

I had heard about this place when it opened. It's located in a house on a street where several restaurants have opened up fairly recently. It's not far from us, but we had just never made it over there.

We finally went to Hog and Hominy because I had read good reviews of their hamburgers, but they refused to sell us hamburgers. Well, that's not quite right. What they did was refuse to make any changes whatsoever to the burger on their menu. Their online lunch menu describes the sandwich: "JOHN T BURGER | pickled lettuce, american cheese, onion, mustard, fries $12" but makes no mention that it can't be changed. The menu in the restaurant doesn't mention that either. I was a bit shocked when I ordered mine without mustard and was told the chef wouldn't make it any way besides how it's listed on the menu because it's an award-winning burger. We had the pizza instead:

But we won't be back. That's just a bit too much precious for a hamburger, and the pizza's good but not so good that I'm willing to put up with the precious.

Please share a drink with us over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's weekly T Tuesday link-up, and we'll let you choose whatever drink you like and have it anyway that suits you.

  1. Yes, I agree, that is being very precious. As you say, there are plenty more restaurants on that strip.
    Happy T-Day,

  2. What a great way to chase off clientele, it shouldn't last very long with other restaurants so close by. What a pretentious chef!......I'm not big on mustard either, unless it's on a corn dog.....LOL! I think I would have left and went someplace else.

    Happy T-day

  6. I would have ordered that burger because I'm a big mustard fan. But try to give me ketchup or mayo and I gag! I can truly understand why you won't ever go back. It's too bad you aren't writing a review for one of the papers or blogs, because they supposedly get great reviews.

BTW, I may be from a hick town, but I would NEVER pay $7.00 for a slice of pie! And that pizza doesn't look all that good to me. Too much dough and not enough sauce for my taste!

Thanks for sharing this never to be visited place with us for T this Tuesday.

    1. I'd never make it as a restaurant reviewer. They actually know something, while all I know is what I like lol. They do get good reviews, and except for my dislike of the burger policy, I really like the place. But that's enough to keep me from choosing them again. So many restaurants, so little time ;)

  8. well, looks like chef has an ego problem. I wouldn't go back either and if chef wants anyone to return -an attitude pill is required. Thanks for sharing. Hope your next dining adventure makes up for this one! Happy T day!

  10. What good restaurant doesn't try to please their customers? After all, that's how they make their money. I wouldn't go back either. The pizza looks good but I'm with you. Hugs-Erika

  11. I've been known to get up and walk out when the attitude is so rigid at a restaurant... I want my food the way I like it not the chef! The pizza does look good though.

  12. Nope. I would't go back either. I don't like pickles or mustard--LOL! In fact, I might have walked out, too. Gone somewhere else where they are nicer to customers. Good grief. They should have posted that right on their menu if that's their policy. No substitutions of any kind.

  13. What a disappointment! They probably have everything made in a production line and can't skip a stage! Just an unbelievable attitude! Hugs, Chrisx
