Pyro's Pizza and Drinking Water

There are 3 of them here now, scattered around town, and we went to the Union Avenue location of local restaurant Pyro's Fire Fresh Pizza. We sat on their patio, really more of a front porch. Here's the view overlooking Union:

I had the Sun & Shade pizza:

and water. We should all drink more water, but bottled water is an evil corporate plot and should be avoided. Watch the video at this link or see it embedded below to understand why tap water is what you should be choosing.

The name of the video is Tapped; and it's a 2009 documentary that looks into the long-term social, economic, and ecological effects of the bottled water industry.

The Husband had pork sausage pizza with regular marinara sauce, and The Younger Son had Italian sausage with spicy marinara sauce. You can see the menu here. I enjoyed it and will definitely want to return.

The I Love Memphis blog has a positive review after several trips. Urban Spoon gives it a rating of 89%. Yelp gives it 4 out of 5 stars.

Please go over to Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog to join the weekly T Tuesday gathering. I'll be out of town on a road trip today. (The Daughter has gotten engaged!!! and we're starting the search for the perfect wedding dress.) I look forward to visiting later.

  1. I had a feeling what was on your sun and shade pizza -and now after looking over the menu I want one too-yum!! Congrats on your daughter's engagement-you are going to have so much fun planning! We rarely drink bottled water anymore. I use a Brita water pitcher and filter. Much better. Happy T day, and happy shopping too.

  3. Oh what fun times you have ahead planning a wedding.
    Congrats to all the family.
Your pizza looks yummy and the crust looks nice and crispy too.
We have a water filtration system under the kitchen sink and cart our own drinking water to most places we go.
The plastic bottle pollution alone is a total nightmare not to mention exactly what is going into the bottles.
Have fun and Happy T Day oxo

  5. The pizza really looks yummy and sounds even better. Rather an appropriate post to share around the 4th, since pyrotechnics came to mind when I saw their sign.

Please don't get me started on bottled water. If you want a rant, just ask how I feel about it. I refuse to buy WATER, other than the water I must pay for from my city water and sewer company. That water costs me enough, I don't need bottled to add an expense on top of that. And the plastic bottles aren't good for the planet, either. I could go on but I will spare you, and just add I attended a water shed workshop one year and was AMAZED by all that goes into making our drinking water safe, drinkable, and not have a funny taste.

Congrats on the daughter getting engaged. When I saw your comments on the wedding dress, I thought I would share a great alternative to the high cost of the dress. Look at these beauties created by crafty women and enjoy the savings:

Thanks for sharing your pizza and WATER with us for T this Tuesday. Now go buy some toilet paper and glue (grin).

  6. Congratulations to your daughter on her engagement!

Your pizza sounds great. I looked at the menu that you linked, and Sun & Shade is the one I'd order, too.

  7. Congratulations to your daughter. You are going to have some busy days ahead with wedding plans. I agree about the bottled water. Our tap water is good, why not drink it?

  8. I agree about the bottled water. I use filtered water (PUR huge container) I keep in the frig or tap water. All that plastic--to make and to have around forever--awk!
    Happy T-Day!

  9. It's tap water for me - I have also heard that you shouldn't refill plastic bottles but can't remember why! Your pizza looks tasty - what a lovely name for it!! Happy T Day, Chrisx

    1. One reason is that you can't ever get them clean enough for re-use. That one reason is enough for me lol

  10. Your pizza looks delicious. I haven't watched the video as we use a lot of bottled water because the tap water is very peaty and not nice. Congrats on your daughters engagement.
Many thanks for your comment on Wee Man's post today :o) Happy T Day :D

  11. Congratulations! Never mind the bridesmaids, what is the mother-of-the-bride going to wear, that's what I want to know! You'll burn several pizzas hunting for the perfect dresses, no doubt. And happy T-Day, too.

    1. She found a dress today! We looked at 3 shops, and she fell in love with a dress from the first shop we went to.

We're in shock over the prices of bridesmaid dresses. I'm teasing my daughter about me wearing Kaylee's dress from Firefly: https://billstvemporium.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/vlcsnap-2010-05-10-18h56m26s229.png Or maybe not ;)

    2. LOL That would certainly be talked about for years! It is good to have the dress picked out, one less thing. Good fortune, I'm sure, to find it so quickly. Is she having many bridesmaids?

    3. There will be 4 attendants on each side. One of my daughter's will be almost 9 months pregnant at the time, She says she may need a chair to sit in during the ceremony ;)

  13. I had to go look at the menu and see what a Sun and Shade pizza consisted of.......sounds really, really yummy!

I wish our tap water tasted good.....it did about 20 years ago....before they started testing it and then dumping chemicals in it. Now I can't hardly stand to have it under my nose, unless it is ice cube form. DH won't even use the ice made with it. Yes we have a lot of plastic bottles ( even though we use LARGE bottles of water)....I do recycle them when I'm not Up-cycling them into art....LOL.

Congrats to your daughter.......boy is YOUR life going to get BUSY!!!

    1. Thx! Yes, very busy :)

I've used water purifiers that attach to the sink when I've lived places where I didn't trust the water. I think the plastic bottles add their own taste, which I don't care for, and the corporate theft (I think you can call it that) of our water supply is scandalous :(
