Wang Dang Doodle

Wang Dang Doodle:

written by Willie Dixon and sung here by Koko Taylor, who was born here in Shelby County. She was 80 when she died on June 3, 2009, after complications following surgery. Dixon joins her on the vocals.

Lyrics excerpt:
Tell fats and washboard sam
That everybody's gonna jam
Just shake it boxcar joe
We got sawdust on the floor
Tell chicken head till I die
We're gonna have a time
When the fish head fills the air
Be snuff juice everywhere
We're gonna pitch a wang dang doodle all night long

  1. Familiar with the song but artists unknown to me. Enjoyed it - especially liked the sax solo.

    1. She moved to Chicago before I was born, so I never knew her as a local performer, but she was a consistent nominee for and winner of Blues awards. She was in 2 movies as a singer, and she was on the soundtrack of some movies and tv episodes. Dixon wasn't local, but he was from Vicksburg, MS, which is still fairly close :) They were both more associated with Chicago Blues.

The sax player is Gene Barge: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Barge . He was born in 1926 and is still active, though I don't know if he still tours.
