The Night Before Christmas

The Night Before Christmas is a 1905 silent short film which fairly closely follows the Clement Clarke Moore poem. This is the poem's first film adaptation. Watch this! It's only 11 minutes long, and you get to see Santa feed live reindeer and watch the adorable children have a pillow fight while they're supposedly "nestled all snug in their beds".

  1. Enjoyed the visual! I have always liked that poem and read it to my children every year when they were young.

    1. I have the book Daddy used to read us that story every Christmas Eve when we were little. I got a kick out of this video, too :) Glad you liked it.

  2. OMG! I had to watch that. How movies have changed since those first days, eh? I wondered where their tree was and through the magic of movies...voila! Sweet!

  3. I also have the book, and for several years, used it, with a few changed words, to fit my Tea Tuesday posts. I really enjoyed this concept of "Snuggled," more than my Bleubeard snuggled in his bed (grin). This was great. Not sure where you found this one, but I'm loving it.

    1. I don't remember where I found this, but in looking for Christmas movies online I often end up googling and then at Wikipedia. I've been surprised at how many early film shorts deal with Christmas.
