Tamp & Tap


I had been to Tamp & Tap before (I had their espresso that time), but The Daughter had never been. Earlier this summer we went so she could see what it was like. We got pour over coffee, and The Daughter got raspberry biscotti:


We like their cups. This was the first time I've had pour over coffee out anywhere, and I must say it was as good as I had hoped. I'm seeing it on more menus lately, so I guess it's the new "thing". I'm on board with it! We sat on their patio people-watching. There was a woman parked around the corner unloading her car. We thought she might be moving into Van Vleet Flats. I think it would be great fun to live downtown. I'm not sure where the closest decent-sized grocery store would be, but that's the only drawback I can see to living downtown.

  1. Pour over coffee? That's a new one to me. I'll have to see what it is about. I have always thought living downtown in a large city would be interesting too although it is something I've never done.

    1. We've made pour-over coffee for years with a little 1-cup plastic Melitta coffee maker: https://shoponline.melitta.com/product/64007/COFFMKRSPROVERRSJ . I even gave them as Christmas presents one year. It's an easy way to make real coffee 1 cup at a time.

  2. OK, what is pour over coffee. I've never even heard of it. I'd love to join you in downtown Memphis one day, though. Nice looking cafe that I'm sure is quite popular. Most people who live downtown, at least the ones I know, eat out more than in, so buying groceries wouldn't be high on their priority list.

    what's old is new!
    For years and years we drank Melitta drip coffee and even found the paper filters in unbleached brown paper.
    For some reason we switched to an electric pot but recently traded that in for a French Press...
    I still have my ceramic Melitta drip thingy (which is what we always called it like Kleenex I guess LOL)
    Living within walking distance of conveniences always sounds very attractive to me.
    You've made me hungry for a biscotti ;-)

    1. My 1-cup pour over maker is plastic, but I think the ceramic ones would be a nice upgrade :) I did regret not getting the biscotti. Next time.... :)

    1. Pour over coffee is so easy that it's great for converting folks who still use instant. You can get real coffee just as easily as instant. :)

  5. I'm not entirely familiar with "pour over coffee" unless it's a similar version to that of the Pioneer Woman's recipe. Hmmmm. .. kind of curious now. It sounds intriquing. Happy T-day!

    1. Ok, so now I'm googling Pioneer Woman's coffee, but don't see anything like the pour over. I use a Melitta cone, put in a filter and coffee grounds and then pour the water over the grounds. Easy as pie, and you can get a fresh cuppa every time. Happy Tea Tuesday! :)

  7. What's old is new. We had pour over coffee growing up, only we called it Melita, The brand name of the ceramic holder that held the coffee filter.
    I love going out with my daughter. Thanks for sharing.

  8. I really like the idea of pour over coffee. Son drinks more than I, I may look at getting as a stocking filler for him. And I really like those mugs you got. I also like Elizabeth's idea f eating out most times - I'm not a keen cook, haha.

    1. I've had Lady Grey suggested by folks when I tell them Earl Grey has too much bergamot for me.

    1. It's so easy! I love just heating the water & pouring it over the grounds. I've converted many a person who would only drink instant because they just wanted one quick easy cuppa. Pour over does the trick :)

  13. I had to google pour over coffee - and I find it how I make it, and how my dad used to make it (probably still do). It´s the best way when you are the only coffee drinker in the household, but it works well for a thermos as well.

    I would have considered stealing one of those gorgeous cups (but I wouldn´t have)!

      I plan on asking if I can buy the cup I'm using the next time I'm there. I bet they won't allow it, but I can ask :)

  14. I have made coffee that way on and off for years, first with Melitta and then with a Chemex decanter pot. Also individual cups with both ceramic and plastic one-cuppers. I enjoy this hands-on way of making coffee; also use French press pot occasionally. I usually bake biscotti around Christmas (almond flavor, dip one end in chocolate is my fav). They last a long time because they have no shortening in them.

    1. We have a French press pot, too, but we don't use it as much as the pour over and drip methods. I need to get Mother's old percolator back out. I love that!

      I'd never thought about making biscotti myself. That sounds like a fun Christmas activity! Thx :)
