Montgomery Bell State Park Bakers Cemetery Trail

The Husband started out on this trail, but he turned back about 15 minutes in. "Don't Push It" -that's our motto. The trail was along an old Railway.

The trail was loud with crows, and we saw turkey feathers on the trail but didn't see the birds themselves. It was an easy walk.

We were honestly expecting there to be more to the cemetery, which is overgrown and poorly maintained:

Near the entrance is a Civil War historical sign:

  1. Several years ago there was a push (and a good chunk of Federal money) to turn old railroad tracks into trails. If I remember correctly, it was called rails to trails and they tried it unsuccessfully in Wichita. I think it was because it was in the city that no one could get interested in it. These trails look much more interesting and exciting. It's too bad about the cemetery, but it seems to add to the "oldness" of the place. Thanks for taking me along on your journey.

    1. They've done that rails-to-trails program here, and it's been a big success. Mostly bicycles, I think, but some walkers & runners, too. I've walked some of it. I think they have about 8 miles done so far.

  2. Looks like an interesting walk. I really like visiting old cemeteries, odd as that might seem to some people. It does seem they could do at least a minimal clean up around those headstones though.

    1. I find old cemeteries fascinating, too. I think this must have been an Eagle Scout project that got no follow-up. A make-the-trail project afterwards abandoned. Sad. I could've done something while I was there, but they discourage the general public from pulling up plants on public property.

  3. Looks like you found a wonderful place for a vacation! What a lovely park, and so many interesting trails. Love the photos!

How do you manage to place two and three photos next to each other? Doesn´t work in my blogger template, or I am not competent enough to manage.

    1. Glad you liked the photos :)

When I'm adding photos to go next to each other, I click the "insert image" button at the top of the post; then I click "choose file" at the top of that pop-up screen; then I click on whichever of my photos I want to add (I click as many as I want to appear together); then I click "add selected" and then alignment "none". I center them on the "compose" page. That's working so far. Does what I said make sense? You know how it is: instructions make sense if you wrote them and know what you're trying to say, but otherwise not so much.

    2. Your instructions are clear as day. Just how I work it myself, except for the alignment choice, which I don´t have. Or if I do, I am blind to it. Perhaps it differs from template to template what one can do?

    3. My template choice was so long ago, I don't remember what the choices were. You'd think the same photo options would be available no matter what the template, but I don't know. I had to google the photo instructions back when I was trying to figure it out, because I couldn't make heads or tails of what I was seeing in blogger.
