Inspiration and Bocce Ball

There are always so many little day-brighteners to see when The Daughter and I wander downtown. A week or so ago we saw the inspirational sign above, and this Bocce Ball Court:

which is intended to be a pet-friendly green space and community gathering spot. We see something new every time we go down there. We both think it'd be great fun to live downtown. The Husband is not convinced. I'm sure he'd understand our view if he'd spend more time there, but I admit chemotherapy does make long walks on concrete a less attractive past-time than it would otherwise be. Maybe next year, I'll drag him along and force him to my will. [evil laugh] Of course, being able to afford housing downtown is another subject. I like this one. Look at the city view:

  1. I've never lived in either an apartment or downtown. It is an experience that I think I would enjoy but I can't see it happening. Just the thought of moving makes me want to take a nap.

  2. I´ve lived in a flat and centrally situated (admittedly in a small town compared to Memphis) all my adult life, and I like it. Sometimes I dream of having a garden, but only for two or three months a year. The rest of it I am just happy I don´t have to shovel all that snow! The flat you like seem to have a high ceiling, which looks very nice. I hear about a lot of middle-age couples moving into town and getting rid of the car in the process, sometimes they buy one car with twenty or thirty neighbours, or they rent for the few times a year they need it. That must save a lot of money, I´d think, as well as being environmentally friendly. Hope you find somewhere you both like to move.

    1. The goal is to move into a flat by the time we can't navigate these stairs. I'd love enough outdoor space (patio or balcony) so that I could play with plants, but we'll see. Areas of downtown where we could give up the car are too expensive for us, but I keep looking anyway. I'm still tempted by that ELF battery-assisted tricycle. ;) Most of the downtown apartments/condos are converted retail or commercial spaces and seem to have good ceiling height and room size.
