Douglas Adams' Birthday

via Tsaiera Blog

I never (well, now I'll have to say, "almost never") observe the birthdays of people who have died. I prefer to observe the anniversary of the death for various reasons. Today, however, is both T(ea) Tuesday and Douglas Adams' birthday, so I thought I'd share this quote from the screenplay to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:

“A cup of tea would restore my normality."

Yes! Yes, indeed! Sometimes a cup of tea is all that's needed to restore normality, and sometimes normality really needs to be restored.

Douglas Adams' books are great fun, and I highly recommend them if you like science fiction with a bit of humor. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is his best-known and most readily available work. You can order it from a Memphis bookstore here.

Please join T(ea) Tuesday with Bleubeard and Elizabeth.

  6. I have Hitchhiker's Guide in my library. It's a fun read, and now I must get it out and peruse it again.

That's a fantastic quote. It's so true, too.

Although most everyone else has heard of death days, etc, I never had. What a great way to honor someone, especially someone you love or respect.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and happy T(ea) today.

    1. i started thinking about death anniversaries for famous people because i more often associate them with the things they did later in life. when an author or actor dies, for example, i remember them as adults and associate them more with their later activities than with their births and childhoods. it's different with family, of course, because i've been celebrating their birthdays all along.

  11. Happy T-Day!
Heard that book being mentioned all the time but I have not read it. Maybe some day ...
We don't really celebrate any special days anymore. Especially gift giving days. I believe any day can be a special day if we make it so.

    1. i find the death anniversary an appropriate time to particularly remember a famous person's accomplishments. we like little celebrations around here, and you're right -there's always a way each day is special

  12. I haven't read this book yet and don't know the author. I do try and remember some anniversary deaths, just to reflect on that person and what they did or inspired us by. This is a perfect quote for T Day. Thank you for sharing.
