The Bourne Legacy

The Bourne Legacy is the 2012 sequel, 4th in the series. This one is directed by Tony Gilroy and stars Jeremy Renner. I like this. I like Renner, I like the characters, I like the plot, I like the action sequences... I'm not impressed by Albert Finney being shoe-horned in. Give him a real part or skip him completely. The missable cameo irritates me.

trailer:

Salon.com says, "Renner gives a performance that’s focused, masculine and unpretentious, pretty much everything you want from the hero of this kind of movie." Slant Magazine says, "If conclusions could be drawn from the strength of his performances, he's a lock for the Bourne series, seen here giving a true star performance of great humor and swagger." Slate closes with this
Thanks to Renner’s smart, charismatic performance and a couple of elegant action sequences early on, The Bourne Legacy mostly holds its own as a late-summer thrill ride—but only if you’re able to wipe your mind clean of the knowledge that it could have been something more.
Rolling Stone says, "Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner plays this series of tics as if it added up to an actual character. Good on him. But the plot strains to bursting..." Time Out gives it 2 out of 5 stars, but praises Renner, saying, "A committed performance from Jeremy Renner breathes life into his Bourne-like character". Roger Ebert praises Renner, but says, ""The Bourne Legacy" is always gripping in the moment. The problem is in getting the moments to add up." Rotten Tomatoes' critics rating is 56%.
