National Geographic Thinks Memphis Is One of the Best

National Geographic thinks Memphis is one of the best trips of 2013. National Geographic calls Memphis one of 20 must-see places this year, specifically recommending our month-long festival season in May:
When to Go: Memphis in May International Festival is a monthlong arts, culture, and culinary celebration that includes the Beale Street Music Festival (May 3-5, 2013) and the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest (May 16-18, 2013).
-Although, if you're an Elvis fan, the upcoming "Death Week" is not to be missed.

And we have plenty of fall festivals, too.

National Geographic has suggested reading:
What to Read Before You Go: The Firm (1991) or The Client (1993), by John Grisham. Both set mainly in Memphis, these legal thrillers evoke the sultry, soulful—and grittier—side of the Bluff City.
I guess I should read them.

They offer a link to the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau.

  1. I've only ever passed through Memphis. Although we did stop at the welcome center when we crossed the Mississippi. Which was pretty cool with it's life sized statues of Elvis and B.B.King.

  3. Actually, it looks kind of like LuleƄ on steroids LOL! Except, we do not have a pyramid. We should, though. The husband visited Nashville a week ago (which I believe is in your neighbourhood) for a conference. He enjoyed himself, did a little sight-seeing, mostly to recording studios, though...

    1. yes, nashville is the capital of our state and is located dead center. we're in the southwest corner just a 3 1/2 hour drive away. there is a lot to see in nashville, including a full-scale replica of the parthenon. music, especially country music, is a very big deal in nashville

      lulea looks pretty :)

    2. Personally, I´d prefer to go to Memphis. More blues than country, I hear, and I always liked the blues so much better. Perhaps on that tour around the world I´m planning for when I retire...
