Variety says: "Offbeat Swedish comedy of manners and passions has an unusual lusty comedy manner." FilmReference.com says it is "the first film to bring him international recognition when it was acclaimed at the 1956 Cannes Festival". The New York Times calls it, "a delightfully droll contemplation of amorous ardors." Senses of Cinema says,
